What is the method you’re going to use?

I am going to try and go natural but I’m not against having an epidural if I feel need one.

Here’s my advice as a second timer, feel free to take it or leave but it’s meant with the best intentions!
1. Go in with an open mind. Everyone labors differently and there is no right or wrong way to do this thing. 
2. If you feel like you need the IV meds, skip it and get the epidural. It’s not going to get any easier, the meds don’t help that much, and they alter your mental state. I had two hits of fentanyl before getting the epidural and if I could go back I would definitely skip them so I could be less loopy. 
3. Ask about nitrous oxide. It’s becoming more common in the states and it can be an excellent method of pain management because it doesn’t remove the pain completely, only affects your body while actually inhaling so it can be used ONLY during contractions, and allows you manage your own pain by using when you need it and not when you don’t. This is my plan for baby 2 and I’ll use that until/if I need the epidural. 
4. Do what you can to stay out of bed. My labor got exponentially harder when I was confined to the bed for internal monitoring. That said, trust your doctors/midwives. 
In the end we all just want a healthy baby!

I’m a game-time decision. I plan to go natural and use nitrous oxide to help me relax if needed, but I’m not opposed to an epidural if I feel it’ll make me more comfortable. I know several people who have birthed naturally but I won’t really know what is best for me until those contractions start and I see how my body handles it

I had the epidural with my son. I’m not sure what happened but I had a bad experience with it. Once they got the needle in, my legs started shaking uncontrollably and my back hurt for MONTHS afterwards. I’m going to do whatever it takes to do natural, if not, I’ll be trying nitrous oxide.

I absolutely refuse to get an epidural for my own reasons. I hated how the IV meds made me feel, so I will decline those this time as well. I’m not even going to allow them to put in the port. I might take nitrous, but we’ll see 🤷‍♀️

With my first I planned on going natural but when it was time for labor i cried for the epidural lmao In the end I actually delivered my son naturally because there wasn’t enough time for them to give me the epidural.
