Was this wrong? And if it was please tell me why!!

So I work in retail. 10 min before we closed a group of women walked in. After greeting them I said... "Just so you know we close in about 10 min but stay as long as you like" they said okau and looked around for about 30 sec then stormed out. As they left I over heard one of them saying something about something I said.

I wanwtes to know what I did wrong so i went after them and askes.

One of the women yelled at me and told me that it was rude to tell people when you close. I said sorry and walked away

Is it really unprofeasional to do this? I have been told cloaing times before and I dont understand why it would be wrong!

It's not rude at all. I have to do that all the time. What's rude is them coming in very close to closing and then get mad when you remind them of the closing time. Everyone has a life after work.

It's definitely okay! Maybe they had had a bad day and were touchy or are just rude, sensitive people. Either way, don't let it get you down. If a store is closing soon, I absolutely want to know

Probably not rude since most stores announce it on their PA system. Don't sweat it. Some people are just ridiculous. And honestly unaware if they didn't know or care when a store closes. And also probably have never worked retail. Any of us who have know that if we stay after closing time it makes the employees have to stay late!

My boss encourages us to do that! I work at hobby lobby and we do an announcement on the PA 10 min before and at closing. 5 min before we close we are told to professionally make customers coming in aware that we close soon but can shop as long as they want...& then on the sales floor once we are closed we politely ask them if they need help finding anything. It's not unprofessional at all to say anything....there are hours posted for a reason :)

I work in a grocery store and we start making announcements a half hour before we close. Then every 10 minutes until we close

Nope, they were just being overly sensitive, inconsiderate and rude

I've never worked in retail, but I think you're fine. People are far too sensitive these days. The only person at work who you really have to please is your boss. If your boss is fine with it, don't worry about it.

The only possible way that could be interpreted as rude is if they thought "stay as long as you like" was sarcastic. Idk. people are weird. Don't let a couple of idiots who have trouble with English comprehension bother you.

No it's not wrong. I worked in retail and they told us to come over the intercom and tell a message to the whole store.
