Views on helping with purchasing engagement ring

Okay so my boyfriend and I are comfortable but we obviously are loaded with money. Both are our credit scores aren’t the best. But we’ve been talking about getting engaged. He works and is in nursing school right now. And I work and make a lot more than he does and I have the money to help him but he says it doesn’t seem right. What do y’all think?
