Prenatal Vitamins, yay or nay?

And why? I've heard mixed stories.

Mine made me terribly sick but I took them anyway. Every single day, day and night. I didn't care if I was sick as long as my baby was healthy.

The biggest thing is the iron and the folic acid. Folic acid develops the brain and spine so it's incredibly important. My mother in law lost her youngest because she didn't have enough, and her Brain and skull didn't form enough. They aren't just for you, they truly are to help baby develop. They may make you nauseous but you can adjust your vitamins. Please take them.

You need folic acid as early as you can get it. There's so much growth in the first trimester & folic acid prevents unreal tube defects like spina bifida. You also need DHA for the nervous system. Sometimes I find myself not getting the necessary nutrients during the day if I'm busy & knowing I take my vitamins makes me feel better that atleast I'm getting some good vitamins in my body for that day

I use a whole food one with probiotics and ginger and really like it. I was also told that folate is more important than folic acid according to more recent research.

It's not worth the risk in my opinion. If you don't and something is wrong with baby you will blame yourself endlessly!

The vitamins are there to replenish YOUR nutrients that the baby took from you. Some woman do better if they start taking them in the second trimester because the prenatals can make them have more vomiting/nausea (morning sickness) causing an actual loss in nutrients.

My midwife took me off them at 8 weeks cuz she thought that's what was causing my MS but turns out I have HG. 39+3 weeks now
