Widwife or Dr?!?

Hello All,
I’m currently just under 5 weeks and have decided to keep my pregnancy quiet until we are through the first trimester. I have been going back and forth between using a midwife or a doctor. I’d love to hear experience and advice from you guys!

I’ll always choose the most qualified, an OB. It’s not worth the risk to go with a midwife to me.

Doctor. If you get a midwife and have any complications, they are going to send you to a doctor anyway...I trust someone that has been to medical school & residency to take care of me & my baby.

Only way I’d ever go with a midwife is if they’re one of the few who are also a doctor. I value the education & experience doctors get prior to practicing and the security of a hospital setting.

Meet with an OB if you don't have one already. Then schedule an appt with a midwife. That way you can judge which you are more comfortable with. I prefer a female OB because the educat3 and experience make me more comfortable and I am more comfortable discussing female issues with another female. There are men who are very good at this job...I am just not comfortable with strange men looking at my vagina and the fact that they don't have a uterus and never had a period and will never be pregnant...well, let's just say I prefer talking to someone who understands these things.

I use a home birthing midwife, if I had to deliver in a hospital I would use an OB as the hospital birthing midwife I used almost killed my son! I am not a fan of them!

I love my midwife. I had an OB last pregnancy and the beginning of this pregnancy and by far prefer a midwife. My appts are about an hour and we just talk about everything and about how I'm doing and feeling. It's so personal and nice... I don't feel like another number. She takes a more natural approach to pregnancy and it's honestly refreshing.
