Is it normal to induce for a BP of 140/74?

My OB wants to induce next week due to elevated blood pressure. It was higher last week and the week before so i was sent to labor and delivery. I had nothing else wrong. No protein in urine, no swelling, and blood work came back fine, and baby sounded good. Plus my BP went down significantly after an hour or so of laying down at l&d. Is it really necessary to induce? I didn’t think that 140/74 was considered high. However, it does seem to be fluctuating. Any thoughts?

If you’ve had multiple episodes of it, it can be dangerous. My girlfriend just had her placenta abrupt at 33 weeks because of high BP so I’d trust your doctor in this instance. Her and her baby almost died/bled out.

My doctor said two episodes of high blood pressure is enough to qualify as hypertension even if it does go back down in later appointments.

Trust your doctor. They know what to look for and any risks they think you and your baby might have. I’ve been induced twice and never had a bad experience because of it. I would follow the medical advice and do whatever they feel is necessary for your babies health.

This BP is right on the border between normal and too high. I wouldn't expect them to induce for this reason alone. Do you know if this is significantly higher than you were pre-prrgnancy? If it is, maybe it's the jump that's alarming them. All the preeclampsia stories I've heard have been with a BP of like 170/90+. 
I've had a BP of about 140/80 at my 12 and 16 week appointments (I'm 17w5d now). My doc has told me that this counts as "pre-pregnancy chronic hypertension". If it grows at 20 weeks+, then she will consider a blood pressure medication and monitor it more carefully.

I’m being induced for the exact same reason! Due December 5th and I’ve had high blood pressure at my last 3 appointments, it had been normal my whole pregnancy until then! I was sitting at 140/80 at my last appointment. I go in tomorrow for my 38 week appointment and we will schedule the induction date then!

100% necessary I'm not sure but that being said itsnot worth potentially risking your baby's life.      There's things that aren't 100% necessary to induce for but the risk is just not worth it.

I was in the 140s/80s with our oldest and 130/80s with our youngest. No preeclampsia. Ended up being induced with both.

I can’t really say if it’s normal or not but I will say that my BP was been elevated the past few weeks and I ended up in L&D for it being 145/101 one night and I had labs run. I did have protein in my urine and I have had a lot of other symptoms like rapid weight gain, swelling, and headaches. So all signs pointing to preeclampsia and no one is doing anything about it 🙃🙄 just kinda monitoring me. No one has mentioned induction at all. Oh and I am 36 weeks 2 days.

120/70 is normal so 140/74 is pretty high. Maybe it’s because it’s consistently high? It is common to induce for high blood pressure though. Happens all the time.

Im not entirely sure but normal blood pressue should be about 120/70. So you are a bit high. If your OB thinks its necessary then i would be trusting. They have you and the babys best interest at heart.
