Sick children in today's society..

So I'm not by any means an "earthy crunchy" type of person. I believe in being healthy but I don't go overboard and i don't plan to with my daughter. I think mothers nowadays go overboard with the whole organic food and breastfeeding until the kid is a toddler and keeping kid locked in the house for its first few months of life. I truly believe that children are unhealthier now than they have ever been. I'm sure children got cancer years ago and children obviously got autism and things like that and maybe it just wasn't talked about as much but I feel like even with all these "natural" methods that parents try to take that kids today are worse than ever. I feel like in my moms generation you never heard about children dying of cancer as much as you do now. It's very sad but makes me wonder...are we just more aware now so we see higher numbers or are kids honestly just more sick in today's world? And are parents just going a little too overboard with certain things?

These feelings have no scientific basis.

Last I heard, "crunch earthy" moms and "natural" moms all let their kid's body do it's thing without overusing meds to fix common ailments, and without using crazy sanitation routines to avoid germs. Allowing the body to do what it naturally does definitely helps to grow stronger and healthier children.

I think there's just a higher number of children so there's a higher number of unhealthy children

When my mother was an infant, doctors told patent to feed their babies meat at 5 months, and it was acceptable to smoke cigarettes during pregnancy.  She survived, as did most kids, but today parents are told to hold off on meat until 11-12 months and we know how dangerous tobacco use can be to developing foetus. Also, today there are more pollutants in the environment and more antibiotics in food. It's a good thing that parents are aware of these things. If it's all they talk about I guess it can get annoying.

On the other hand, the cancer rate has risen over time.

died of cancer they called it "the wasting disease." Lots of kids died of the wasting disease. It's a common occurrence and theme in 19th century lit. I will

I feel that your statements are probably true. There are more sick kids, but it's probably because of medical advancements and not as many of those kids are dying in infancy.

You can never be too healthy. The only problem I've seen with the "crunchy earthy" types is when a select few decide not to vaccinate. But those people are few and far between and I hope that will die out soon. Maybe the reason you see so many kids getting sick is because we're feeding them shit. The health-conscious parents you're talking about are the minority. We need to take a hard look at what we're putting into our bodies and not enough people are doing that.

I think they are saying that even with the rise of health conscious moms..it seems like more children are sick nowadays.

Yes I think people go overboard, it is a common theme. Look at any huge radical movement. You will find they start with a good idea, like let's use less processed foods, and then go flat out nuts with it. kids did have and die from cancer. They also had autism, I remember going to school with a little boy who today I am sure would have been put on meds. However because we are talking 25 years ago, he was just considered a little different.
