Are all babies born with low blood sugar if you have GD?

I’m so worried. I see stories of moms getting discharged from hospital and babies staying in the NICU for days. 😩 just the thought of it makes me depressed.

Mine was not. I kept my numbers diet controlled and when my son was born they checked his sugar two or three times and all were normal. He did not go to NICU at all.

It helps if you have stable sugars.
I had also hand expressed colostrum in the last month to collect and freeze. It is now recommended for GD mothers provided you are told it's safe from your OB, as it can help your milk come in sooner. And it also gives you a back up supply of colostrum to prevent a hypo in case you don't have enough when breastfeeding.
I had to go in for emergency surgery after birth so I didn't get a chance to breastfeed. My husband was able to finger feed my stored colostrum to our daughter so she was fine.

My son was but my midwife and I had discussed this potential and we decided to give him donors milk if it happened.  Apparently this helps them stabilize their sugar levels.  Thankfully it helped as his sugar levels were good after that.

My baby was perfectly healthy and I had diet controlled GD. Didn't have GD with my first pregnancy and one of my twins had low sugar and spent 3 days in NICU but he was the smallest of the two. Try not to stress about it (I know its hard) just keep telling yourself both you and bubs will be getting the best care

My baby has to have his blood tested every 4 hours for the first 24hrs to test his blood sugar, and if we failed a single test we’d have to start again and go to a bigger hospital, luckily he passed every test and was perfectly fine 
I was told the babies blood sugars would most likely be affected after birth if my blood sugar was maintained during pregnancy

Mine has no trouble. I had a 8lb 13 oz baby with very controlled diabetes and then a 10lb 13oz baby with poorly controlled diabetes and a lot of insulin. Neither of them had low blood sugar and neither of them had a longer stay in the hospital. Of course this isn’t always the case and I was really lucky my 10lb baby was as healthy as he was

My GD required insulin to control it and I needed quite a lot during labor and delivery. My baby did end up with low blood sugar about 12 hrs after birth and he spent time in the special care unit. They took such good care of him...those nurses are amazing! It was challenging and emotional but I pumped colostrum every 4 hours and he also got donor milk. I was technically discharged but they let me stay in my room (they charged “rent”) until he was ready to go. He also had jaundice but I delivered him on a Tuesday and we were home by Friday. It all turned out ok despite his low sugars!

I just had my baby on Tuesday and she was perfectly fine! They checked her blood sugar every 2 hours for a 24 hour period and she never had a bad reading. We came home in less 48 hours.
