Does anyone know what medicine exactly is in the epidural?

I’m a FTM who’s allergic to codeine/morphine and I cannot get a straight answer on google on what’s in an epidural. Anyone know?

An epidural is a mixture of a numbing agent, usually a -caine,
and a narcotic painkiller, usually fentanyl. However, since epidurals are mixed according to moms weight (meaning they are prepared and mixed for a specific mom, thats one reason it takes so long haha), you can talk to the anesthesiologist, and they will be more than happy to mix something appropriate to your specific needs.

I dont know exactly what is in an epidural. But you should make sure you let your birth team know about your allergies. Also if you have a partner make sure they know and can advocate for you if you are unable.

Epidurals vary by patient so just talk to your doctor, anesthesiologist, and nurses. Be sure your allergies are documented everywhere (they typically even put a bracelet on you stating your allergies).
