Nickname for Jonathan: Nate. Would you use it?

Nate is a legit nickname for Jonathan, but wondering if it's too much of a stretch.

I call my bro Joe-Nathan all the time :) his name is jonathon... his middle name is triston so some ppl call him JT, but others say Jon or Jonny.. I think Nate could work as well tho :)

Go for it. Kids go by their middle names all the time so what's the difference if he goes by a strech of a nickname?  
It is kind if weird how nicknames come about!  Like Billy from William or Dick from Richard

I am a Jonathan who goes by Nate or Nathan and I downloaded this app just to answer this question.

It is unusual, but I kinda like it.  Sometimes I lose track of when I've used which name (for job applications and such) and it gets old explaining it to people.  I just say 'my mom thought it would be neat.'  Lots of people try to call me 'Nathaniel' and I roll my eyes a little.   But overall I'm cool with it.

I read the other comments & saw that your husband wants him to have a family name.. Nathan (rather than Nathaniel) is very close to Jonathan! Is he still opposed to this if you explain it this way -- (Jo)Nathan?

Maybe I'm biased b/c my son is Nathan, but I love & have always loved the name! My son will be 3 in November & has started referring to himself as "Na-Nate" recently. I always wanted him to be called Nathan. I'm personally not a fan of the nickname "Nate", but I knew he would most likely be called this at some point. I just didn't expect him to say it himself & at such a young age!

Anyway, I vote for Nathan, with a silent "Jo" lol! 😉
