Toddler Leash. Safety over side eye

Hello fellow mama's. I hope I'm not the only one with a super active crazy toddler that wants to run free when out in public. My solution has been to keep him in his stroller at all times but now he's starting to get restless and wants to walk. When I let him out he will hold my hand for a moment and then either throw himself on the floor to get away or try to break away from me. When he breaks away he takes off like the wind. This terrifies me. I never wanted to be the mom with her son on a leash BUT we cant always get what we want right? Safety over side eye. Anyways the real question is which style is best?

I've seen 2 kinds, a backpack and a wrist strap.

If you are against leashes I dont care to know your opinion...like I said, safety over side eye.
