Should female characters be included in military shooter style video games?
Clearly women’s rights have far more important issues to tackle, but I’m in the middle of writing an essay for English, and the topic is over why female characters aren’t as prevalent as male characters in military shooter-style games.
Some people, such as John Romero (a designer who worked on “Doom” and “Quake”), think that including women is a good idea. “I can’t see anything negative about having more choices in a game...everyone likes having more choices...”
But others, such as Sande Chen, say that adding female characters to military shooter video games could lead to unfair advantages.
“It makes a game more complicated because there are differences between men and women in battlefield situations. Women walk differently and their frames are usually smaller and more difficult to hit. Usually, game developers don’t want to give too much advantage to one character choice over another character choice.”
Women make up 47% of the gaming population, yet there doesn’t seem to be a lot of representation.
