When do you start reading to your children?

In the womb! We already do bedtime stories most nights. But we’ll do it every night once she’s here.

I didn’t start as soon as I planned, mainly because she was sleeping so much as a newborn. As soon as she started staying awake more than just to eat I started. So I think it was somewhere between 1-2 months.

I read while he nursed as a newborn (helped keep me awake in the middle of the night!). When we switched to bottles, that went away. He had no interest in books and would scream when we tried reading to him. So we stopped for a while. Now at 6 months, he tries to eat the book and is sort of entertained by the touchy books. He prefers song type ones (Barnyard Dance!). We have a 365 Bible stories book and we read one of those each night before bed.

We started early with realllly simple short books. Right now at 16 weeks we do one every night after bath and she’s loving the pictures in Goodnight Moon.

I never read to mine until they really showed any interest in books. My daughter is now 2.5 and loves books so much. And while I don’t read much to my 14 mo old son as he won’t sit still. He also loves to look at all the books they have.
