Is the iPhone xs truly waterproof?

I recently purchased an iPhone XS and it claims its waterproof... but I’m hesitant to see if that’s true! 😂 We have a trip to Hawaii coming up, and I thought it would be cool to get underwater pics while snorkeling since it said up to 6 feet... Curious if anyone has actually tried this and the phone lived on?!

No you would have to get a baggie or a go pro or something. Water resistant means that they’ll survive if you accidentally drop them in the toilet for 2 seconds and theyre less likely to need the rice bowl ritual if you drop it in the tub. Swimming with it is not a good idea though

I am pretty sure it’s water resistant. So it could take a dip in a puddle, but not deep sea diving.

The important thing to note, from a former Apple employee. The iPhone is water-resistant, so if it’s raining or you drop it into the sink or something, it’ll be fine.
The little asterisk they keep in fine print is that it’s tested in FRESH water. It is NOT resistant to salt water as there are other minerals (I.e., salt) that have not been reliably tested for endurance. Again, fine if you drop it into the water for a second and get it back out, not so fine to deliberately put your phone into death’s mouth.
That said, I’d recommend getting a truly waterproof case (such as the Lifeproof), in order to protect the investment of your phone.

Yes. They can be submerged a few feet in water for 30 minute time increments. I have the X and I took it underwater while snorkeling in the DR to take photos

I have the X and I’ve gone in the Pool with it and took it under water and my phone is perfectly fine. It’s waterproof for 30 min in water less than 3 meters I think.

I believe it's water resistant up to 3 meters for 30 minutes but I wouldn't test that also doesn't apply to things like a sink full of hot soapy water or a hot tub

I have the XS MAX and although I have never dropped it in water, my Sorority sister has dropped hers and she says her phone still works. My husband has the XS and he dropped his in liquid the other day. It still works, but it was only a little liquid. Also, our phones are always in our cases so maybe that makes a difference. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I had the 7 it was water resistant I dropped it in the toilet on accident still worked but my speakers sounded like shit. & now i have the iPhone XR, and i haven’t dropped in water but I do have a life proof case on it so I’m sure if I accidentally drop it, it’ll be fine

Apple don’t like people saying the phones are waterproof, because they’re only water resistant. There have been people who have tested the phones by putting them to 2 metres in water for an hour and they were fine, but it’s up to you if you want to risk it

We have the 8s. My husband works at a landfill. And his accidentally got dropped in like two feet of water. And not just water but the shot they put in it to purify it after coming through the trash. It’s been perfectly fine. And they’re water resistant as well. And it took him a few minutes to find it. He just dried it quickly and it was fine. But I wouldn’t go swimming with it. Not without some other form of protection. He now has a lifeproof case on it that’s water proof. Just Incase. Please don’t go spend all that money on a phone only to not protect it and go swimming or diving with it.
