C-section & breastfeeding?

I'm gonna have a c-section, and I want to breastfeed!!! Badly. But I'm so scared that things won't go right. I want to be able to breast feed right off and all the time. I'm worried. What's your stories?!?!

I had a scheduled c section with my daughter 3 months ago.  As soon as my daughter came out she was looking for something to suck on.  She latched off the bat in the recovery room.  It was such a smooth transition. We needed no help at all while at the hospital.  I have been nursing her for 3 months now and I don't plan on stoping.  The key to breast feeding is being relaxed...,babies can sense when you stress and that also can negatively affect milk supply too.  My first born needed 5 days to properly latch.  With him I ended up having an emergency c section after being in labor for 36 hrs.  The moral of the story is you will have better chances if it's a scheduled c section because both you and the baby will be rested.

You'll be fine. I have had 3 csections and a 4th next week. The only thing that I can suggest it learn the "football hold technique" as anything that touches your incision will hurt.

I had a scheduled csection and have been exclusively breastfeeding for 6 weeks now with no problem. My milk came in on day 4.  I was able to nurse my LO right after the surgery and just kept nursing him in the hospital and even pumped some to make sure my milk would come in.

I had an emergency c section and my boy and I both had fevers. He was taken to get antibiotics right away and was given one of those green pacifiers as his first latch. A week later we are still unable to latch however I have "flat" nipples and he has a high palet.. Im sure that has something to do with it but I wish he was never give the green pacifier as his first latch :/

I had a scheduled c-section 5 days ago. My husband got skin-to-skin 5 mins after she was born in the OR with me. And then I got skin-to-skin once we made it into the PACU, so about 40 mins after she was born. We breastfed right there and have been fine ever since. You've got this momma...just believe in yourself. And know that c-section or not, breastfeeding is not just a walk in the park. You and baby have never done it before, so be patient with yourself. Good luck with your recovery!! You're going to do great!!!

I had an emergency c-section after 28 hours of labor and was afraid of the same thing. They brought me my little man in the recovery room though and helped me get him latched on right away! We spent the first night nursing and then he was taken to NICU for infection, I had a fever and infection too so I wasn't able to be with him or breastfeed for 48hrs, just pump and send hubby down to bottle feed 😔 I was really afraid that would mess things up for us but thankfully he latched on like a champ as soon as we were reunited! Don't worry mama, you'll be just fine!

The nurses brought my LO right into recovery to begin breastfeeding immediately. It was a scheduled csection. But the same thing happened with my first one too

I had an emergency c section. I was unconscious for 2 hours after his birth with general anesthesia. The only trouble we had was his tongue tie. It was severe and we had it cut. As soon as it was cut on day 2 it's been smooth sailing. I did hours of skin to skin with him day 1 and day 2 until they took him. I kept trying to feed despite his frustration and my pain. As soon as he was back to me my milk came in. He started gaining weight day 3. He was 7 pounds 9 ounces at birth. Lost 6 ounces days 1&2, day 3 he was 7 pounds 6 ounces.

I unfortunately ended up with a c section and had wanted a natural water birth. Wanted to breast feed but my body wouldn't produce the milk so I pumped every half an hour for a week and took vitamins continued to try get my baby to latch and used donor milk in the meantime. I was sent home then and had to bottle feed but kept trying to hand express. 3 weeks later a drop came out but by that stage she was well onto a bottle and wasn't for going back.
