Do you ever feel like there shouldn't be a race/gender option?

I usually am hesitant to bubble the answer in. Anywhere really, like why does the doctor need your race for? Why do I need to say if I'm a black latino or a white latino for school? If I'm male or female. I really feel discomfort when ever the question is asked. Please be free to express your opinion.

Yes a medical doctor needs to know your race and sex. Different races are subject to different health issues. As for sex, your doctor needs to know what kind of organs you have. They aren't asking your gender. If you were born male, but identify as female that's fine. However your doctor still needs to know if you have a penis or not.

There are some genetic diseases that are more likely afflict a certain race or group of people. Ie: African Americans are more likely to have sickle cell anemia, Caucasian people are more likely to get melanoma. I know that this isn't a race, but Jewish people are more likely to have Tay Sachs. 
This is a good reason for your doctor to inquire about race or your genetic makeup.

As otheta have said in the medical community different races tend towards different issues. Example African Americans and his blood pressure, it's a thing. And for school demographic studies are important. If all of your girls are performing worse than all of your boys, or Latinos are performing worse than other groups you need to change the way you engage those students. You can find the root of the problem if you don't know if there is a problem.

I get what you're saying and as others have said there is a reason for these questions usually. But on another note, if we stop acknowledging our differences pretty soon we lose our sense of the value of diversity. Being black is good, being white is good, being Latino is good or being mix of races is good but when we're all contributing to something together and acknowledging differences as a positive then that's even better 😀

Because this is very important information to know. The race will tell the doctor how high your risks are for certain health conditions, for instance African Americans are at higher risk for high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes etc. Gender, is also important, men are at higher risk for certain diseases than women. Gender and race is also used for statistics. Out of all people in the world, your doctor should be the only one who really should know your gender and race. I don't understand why employers need to know, besides statistics.
