Work from home with baby?

Question

Has anyone worked from home and still be able to take care of your newborn? Should I get a babysitter ? Anyone?
Thanks everyone, I guess I will just have to see how it goes when he’s born. I’m honestly thinking I’ll probably have to leave him in someone else’s care.

I work at home but have to take my daughter to daycare. If I absolutely had to, I could keep her home with me but I know I wouldn’t be able to give her as much attention as she would need without sacrificing my productivity for work. I also didn’t want her having to be in her bouncer or excersaucer all day so it wouldn’t be realistic for me especially when she is more mobile.

I do marketing for an engineering firm and I work from home two days a week. I started when she was born and she’s now one. It’s not easy, by any means. I get distracted by my daughters needs, whether it be feedings, changing, her wanting attention — but it can be done. I tend to start earlier and work a little later with the assumption I’ll be taking more breaks. My boss is really cool about it all as long as I get my work done. he’s ok if my hours get a little goofy on those days.

It probably depends what you do for work. 
I use to teach online and while I was teaching I obviously needed childcare 
But I also ran a small business from home and while there were a few things I could do while he played - my son still required a lot of my attention so I’d have to do more important tasks either while he slept or during planned time where my husband watched him. 
So yes and no.

I don’t work from home, I’m a teacher, but I’ve tried to get some work done while home on maternity leave.  It’s near impossible for me.  If I have any time when he’s asleep, I always have other things that I have to do like pump, his laundry, clean bottles, walk the dog, shower, etc.  He’s only 5 weeks old right now, maybe it gets easier.  If I were you, I’d just see how it goes at first, figure out your baby and his/her routines, and then get a sitter for a few hours a day when you know you can get a lot of work done.

Yeah, it depends on what you do. I work from home but on a phone/computer 40 hours a weeks so caring for an infant while doing that would be a no go. (Especially since its against contract)

You definitely don’t get much done with baby at home. I’m lucky if the kitchen is clean, laundry done and dinner. Putting him down for naps, helping him get stronger, giving him attention and working are nearly impossible. Get a sitter or nanny

I struggle to answer emails, phone calls, etc. when I’m at home. I teach violin and there’s a lot of things I have to take care of at home. I can do some while she’s napping, but I can hardly do anything while she’s awake. She’s 19 months and wants to touch all the keys on my computer if it’s out.

I work from home. For the first 11 months I did it. It was HARD. I can manage my own schedule and be flexible, nap whenever needed, so that helped. When my son became very mobile, it stopped. I was able to have my laptop and desk in his room at first so we were just always together having a good old time, until he just wanted to climb on me and mash the keyboard when he turned into a walker.

Some companies will make you sign a document stating that any children are in someone else's care during your work hours.
