Can a Pap smear cause your period to arrive early?

Hello! I recently got a Pap smear and I started spotting after, but the bleeding has gradually increased over the past few days, complete with cramping and mood swings. The flow rate is that of a light period.

I’m on the Nexplanon birth control since April and have not had a period since August. I am not pregnant (confirmed with a test) and I’m wondering as to why I’m bleeding?

The reason I got the Pap smear was that I was in the ER with severe abdominal pain. The abdominal pain has been confirmed to be caused by my intestinal tract (CT scan and gastroenterologist confirmed). The Pap smear was extremely painful. I have endometriosis so sex can be painful, but even the doctors fingers made me wince and want to cry. It took her 3 tries to insert the instrument because it hurt so bad. I’m just concerned if she may have perforated anything? Thanks.
