Genetic Testing

Valerie

Hello mamas. I just recently graduated from my RE since I’m about 10 weeks along now, so will have to see my regular OB now. (which honestly makes me sad, since you get so much extra TLC from your RE’s lol 😭)

I have my first OB consult next Tuesday and I know she’s going to talk to me about genetic testing. We did PGS testing already during our IVF cycle. So I already know I have a healthy baby in there. But I was just wondering if any of you who did PGS also, still went ahead and did further genetic testing with your OB afterwards too? I feel conflicted. Cause I don’t want to do further testing if I already did it prior to our embryo transfer. But I also know that PGS isn’t 100% accurate either.

What did you guys decide on? Or what would you do? Thanks in advance! 💛

First off, I had a very rough adjustment period when I left my RE and went back to my OB. I was sad to leave the loving atmosphere of my RE’s office. Secondly, I did PGS testing on my embryos and still went ahead with the Harmony test. My OB didn’t push it but my RE recommended it. Since I valued my RE’s opinion, I did it. It’s just further reassurance that baby is fine. PGS testing only tests a few cells. Think of how many times those cells have multiplied since PGS. Even though it’s a very slight chance, my RE said something could form after PGS testing.

I’m in this same boat. Am planning to do basic testing since it’s not invasive—I figure more information can’t hurt.I also had my first OB appt the other day after graduating from RE and it was rough. I thought the guy was a total jerk—hard to know if I’m just used to the TLC at my old doctor or whether he really is. Thankfully he won’t be my real doc—I just had to schedule my first appt with him bc my real doctor didn’t have any appointments until January.

We also transferred a PGS tested embie, but since it isnt 100%, we opted to do the NIPT blood test at 12 weeks just to be sure. It's best to be as informed as possible at all times!

We transferred a pgs normal embryo, so our OB saw no need to do further genetic testing :)

We tested for spinal tube defects, but didn’t do any additional genetic testing. All looked good at our 20 week anatomy scan! 💜🌈

I did genetic testing on my embryo so opted out of testing with my OB.

I didn't in any of my singleton pregnancies, and they were not PGS tested. I just felt like we had a really young donor (donor embryos) and our risks were low. The one thing screening can show that genetic testing can't is spinal cord defects. Spina Bifida can sometimes be operated on in utero with really good success these days, so that's something to consider.
