Opting not to do NT Screening and Why?

Question

I am debating whether or not to do the Nuchal Translucency screening. I am not worried about the results because nothing would change my mind about carrying my baby to term, loving it and giving it the best life I can. I can’t help but feel I am being a bad mom because I am leaning toward choosing not to. It’s just a screening and it can only show me possible chances, I am 26 and the only genetic disorder in my family is cookie-bite hearing loss (which is incredibly rare) which would call or carrier genetic testing, which my insurance doesn’t cover. 
if you chose not to do, do you regret it?

We opted out of all of those tests in the beginning for the same reason you did-we would love and keep the baby no matter what.   HOWEVER, we now find ourselves doing them late in the second trimester after finding potential concerns on an ultrasound. If we would have already done the tests we would have had a lot more peace of mind.  
I wish we would have done them in the beginning because it would have ruled out all of these concerns and given the doctor reassurance about the ultrasound. Now, I look at these tests differently. They are not about deciding if you were going to keep or love a child with a disability, they're about being fully informed of your baby's health (which in the end, every parent wants to be).

I would want to know if something wasn’t right as soon as possible to have extra time to prepare myself, my home and whatever else was needed. I would want the time to find the best resources and doctors if it was necessary and the more notice the better

We didn’t do any of the tests. We didn’t care either way. We would love the child and I didn’t want to worry the rest of the pregnancy and the tests be wrong.

We didn’t opt to do any of the optional testing available. From what we had read up on many of the tests, false results were common that just led to additional (expensive) testing just to find out everything was fine. Between that and also feeling the same that it was our baby no matter what we opted out.

I didn’t get the screening done as it would not change the outcome of carrying on with the pregnancy.. 
This screening which can carry false positives and can be inconclusive can lead to a diagnostic test of amniocentesis and I was unwilling to accept the risks..

If it isn't going to change anything for you, then I qould skip it. If there were anyrhing wrong with the baby, they will see it at your anatomy scan. It doesn't make you a bad mom at all.

We did it and we found out the gender! It was my favorite scan because our son was still small enough to fit in the whole picture, so we got great photos. In the beginning months I felt like I couldn’t get enough of seeing my baby boy with an ultrasound since I wasn’t showing and I couldn’t feel him move, but if you’re avoiding ultrasounds for personal reasons that’s totally respectable as well.

That's why its optional hehe. Do whatever you feel best. The 20 week scan isn't though I think. Xx at least not in Australia. They offered the 12 week scan but just gave me the referral for 20 week one. That's why I assume it isnt.
