Baby staring at ceiling?!

My baby girl is 8 weeks and constantly looks up at the ceiling and smiles and laughs sometimes seems to be following something smiling! Its creepy to me my mother in law says it's my mother who passed away ... does anyone have a logical explanation for this ? Does your baby do the same ? 
Even when I change her positions she will look up again and smile I try n get her attention but doesnt even  notice me lol

All 3 of mines has done it. My family just says their playing with angels . Lol idk

My little one tends to stare at the ceiling as well, my mom says it's that a loved one who passed is there looking over us

Mine stares at the bookshelf that has a picture of me and my grandma who passed away many years ago. I like to think my grandma is visiting us!

Mine I've noticed tends to look at shadowa, lights, and ceiling fan.

I think it’s the lights. Mine loves our fish tank and Christmas tree just like the ceiling. Also they can only look some many directions when so little, so up is likely the easiest when on their backs 🤷‍♀️

My baby girl will stare at lights but sometimes other random objects. She also randomly smiles, especially when she is sleepy.

Mine was feeding and staring up at the corner of the room when her eyes got wide and she started screaming! She looked completely spooked! Scared the crap out of me. 😂

Mine does! But we have beams so I think he’s fascinated by the contrast.

My son will be 7 weeks on Monday. He does the same thing. He doesn’t smile/laugh at it, but always stares at the ceiling and/or light. Doc asked if he was doing this already so I guess it’s normal.
