Advice?

I am 17 years old and currently 24 weeks pregnant & I am so nervous to give birth. I want to know if the epidural hurts that bad or if contractions or worse? What’s it like giving birth and then delivering the placenta? I want to know absolutely everything about what it’s like.

I was so so scared for the epidural. TERRIFIED. After hours of back labor I gave in and let me tell you...it was AMAZING!!!! I only felt the numbing shot and from there on after it was a whole new experience. Pictures attached below.

I think you would feel more at ease if you took a birthing class. I wasn’t afraid of labor before, but I felt even better about it and much more informed after my first lamaze class. I would recommend it for everyone, but especially if you’re nervous. It will answer all the questions you have and help you feel prepared.

Your going to get so much back & forth info . Some the epidural hurts some it doesn't , some it works some it doesn't . Some ladies go without & say they were 100% fine others couldn't imagine it bc they were so uncomfortable, were checked & only a few cm dilated . In my experience reading books , taking a class , reading educational info online is better than hearing a bunch of stories going either way , it doesn't help being told a million different situations. I was your age when i had my first. I was induced and not dilated at all. I had to go 10 hours without the epidural. And girl let me tell you when you’re in labor forever and having knarly contractions the epidural is NOTHING. I don’t even remember what the epidural feels like 🤷🏻‍♀️  Everything will be okay! I’ve never gotten an epideral but labor and delivery without meds is hella hard if you aren’t completely prepared for it. Once you feel those contractions, you’d do anything for pain relief. The placenta is NOTHING compared to baby. Feels like a huge blob coming out of your vagina. Just soft and squishy. It should be the least of your worries. I’m pretty sure the stitching was worse for me than the delivery. Just because they didn’t numb me like they should’ve and I felt EVERYTHING!!! I had like 4-5 nurses holding me down while I cried in pain...it was awful.

I made it 5 hours without meds, but was talked into an epidural because the contractions were progressing, but I wasn't. The contractions were HORRIBLE, according to everyone in there with me, but I remember them being ok somehow.
With my epidural, I didn't feel anything except a release of pressure with the baby. But I won't lie, i almost punched a bitch when she did the placenta.

With my first I was scared too but it was not as bad as I thought the only thing that hurt was when she was crowning and I could feel my vagina rip. But I promise you once baby is in your arm nothing else will matter and you forget what just happened. I can’t even remember them taking my placenta out.

I didn’t have an epidural or pain meds.  I did use laughing gas which was lit, but that’s not a pain med.  I was induced too which may have made the pain worse but yeah it hurt like a bitch lol.
But honestly it was temporary.  I’m 9 weeks pregnant again and would rather give birth than wait 31 more weeks and then do it 😂
The stitches really sucked but I mean it wasn’t any worse than labor for me.  Delivering the placenta was the easiest part.  I didn’t feel myself tear or the “ring of fire”.  I think the part I really hated most was when they pushed on my stomach afterwards.
All in all...the anticipation is the worst part.  Not gonna lie, it’s horrible, but once it’s over, you forget about it.  It kinda hurts to sit for a few days (assuming you give birth vaginally) but I was feeling fine after a week.

I got the epidural and I could feel it scraping my spine. It didn't even work all the way. I had a pretty bad experience, but that was just because I had to be induced at 40+6 as I was still 0cm and 0% effaced and so I didn't get to use my birth plan and didn't have my son until 41+2. By the time we got to leave the hospital I had been in there for almost a week.
