My SO has a 1911 45 caliber and i wanted to get him some more bullets for it but have no idea is there something specific or do i just get anything that says 45 caliber

If he is using it for target practice be sure you get the FMJ(full metal jacket)version of whatever caliber you buy. For home self defense buy JHP(hollow points).

May I suggest a great gifting idea? I just got one for my boyfriend and I, but phantom gear holsters has a really great quick draw mounting holster! There are lots of youtube videos about them. Pretty sweet!

I’m not that great knowledge with all guns seeings that i have my first which is an ruger SR22, fiancé has s&w 40cal. 
I want to say it the ammo depends whether or not if it’s a revolver or a auto mag, i could definitely be wrong on that so don’t hold it against me. But i think you’re right, i would go Winchester brand .45. Is there not any empty boxes he might have? Or the salesperson should have some knowledge to help as well. Or you could google?
