Rehoming an animal that isn't yours? (Read FIRST)
I've been "babysitting" my stepdaughter's cat for 6 months. She asked me to take care of him until she could find a new apartment, but moved in with her grandfather instead, and hasn't taken him back since.
Overall, the cat is a good boy. He sheds alot, pees on paperwork and clothes, and completely destroyed our carpet with his claws. He's also a frequent vomiter and accidental pooper. I honestly can't think of a single redeeming quality, nonetheless, I'm an animal lover, so I deal with all his ailments.
I've discussed these issues with my stepdaughter, and she doesn't have an interest in taking him home soon. I'm getting tired of investing my money on nail covers, green apple spray, and scratching posts (none of which work). What do you guys think about a caretaker suggesting to the owner that an animal be rehomed? Is it cruel to not keep an animal that does nothing but tear up your house?
