First semester of college went terrible - advice?

So I did really good in HS, got great grades, ended with a 3.8 GPA, and was in national honors society but I just finished my first semester of college and it beat my ass. I got a 66% on one of my finals. And I walked out of that exam thinking I did okay. Wtf. I am going to try to get into graduate school but now I’m scared I won’t be able to because of my grades. Idk how to get them up - I studied and listened in class. Thought I knew the material. What do I do?! Am I as screwed as I think I am?!?!?!

I literally basically failed all of my classes my first year of college. It was because of stuff I was going through and didn’t go to anyone for help and thought I could handle everything myself, but I couldn’t. And I went to a party school, so I just ignored my problems and partied instead until it got to be too much and finally realized I was surrounded by shitty people doing shitty things and not focused on school. Now I’m 22 and just got my AA in liberal arts this summer and am working on getting my advanced pastry degree. I was so sad when all of my friends graduated with their BA this summer, but like I just realized like what happened to me did t happen to them and even if that didn’t happen to me and I was just purely struggling with school, it would still be okay because like college can be tough. I’ve had to retake classes and rely on my teachers curving grades, but like whatever. There’s nothing you can do about the grades you got this semester, just try to do better next semester and if you have to retake classes, do it. It’s not the end of the world. Also, get into study groups and go to office hours and stuff next semester. My mom has told me that from the beginning and I never listened to her, but that is what helped me pass chem and Micro bio and just having friends in classes really helps. I didn’t talk to anyone in my classes until I got to my major classes and now I have a really great group of friends in my program that I can always ask for help or whatever and that is super important in college. Just try to stay positive!

You are adapting. College is very different from high school and the study methods you used in the former may not work well in the latter. 
Keep going. Change study tactics (you can make a Google search on "study methods" and read about them, see what may work better with you and try it for a while. I've learned that I can't learn for shit unless I either explain it aloud or write/type it down with my own wordings. With time you will adapt and improve your grades. You just need to work on it. 
Remember that learning is a skill like any other. Inteligence is not 100% innate, neither is the ability of learning effectively. You need to train it to improve it.

College usually has huge curves. A 66 on a test does not mean you’re doomed! I made a 42 on a final and ended up with a B in the class. College has a lot of free tutoring resources you can find. Usually there’s a center set up to tutor all the subjects at any time of the day - you just drop in. It helps a ton to form study groups with other people in the class. I think you’ll be just fine! 🙌🏻

College is tough.  I had a 4.1 gpa when I graduated high school.  My second semester of college I got my first D and F.  College requires adjustment and a lot more effort than high school.  I graduated yesterday with my bachelors in biology with a 3.0 gpa and it was not an easy road.  There were a lot of breakdowns and all nighters. Don’t let this one semester dash your hopes of grad school.  Learn from this semester and use that knowledge to do better next semester.  Most campuses offer free tutoring which you may want to take advantage of.  Form study groups with people from your class.  Your classmates may know something you don’t and you may know something they don’t.  I recommend studying in the library because there are far less distractions there than at home or in a dorm.  I really believe in you.  Don’t ever give up and you will do fantastic.

So I failed all my classes or dropped them my first year of college. I did some college in high school and went in thinking it would be the same. It’s totally different, and scary, and hard. Basically, I guess I’m just saying it is hard but don’t give up because the goal is greater. And always remember Cs get degrees
