Anyone else not getting their first ultrasound until week 20?

It seems like absolutely everyone has super early ultrasounds, but the practice I go to does the first one at 20 weeks. They will use a Doppler to listen to the heartbeat at 10 weeks. Anyone else also not getting their first ultrasound until later?

We get one at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 20 weeks and than depends after that

I’ll never understand why doctors don’t ALWAYS order first trimester scans. I mean...they talk about how we need to minimize stress and anxiety while pregnant. I don’t think I started breathing normally again until after I saw my baby’s heart fluttering around. 😳

We get the NT screening at 12 weeks, otherwise I’d probably be in the same boat. 😞

I had one at 6 weeks d/t spotting and lower back pain and again at 8 weeks (everything was okay) now I won’t have another until 20 weeks.

My doctor won’t order one till 20 weeks either. Since I can’t wait that long I go to a private scan place.

My dr office does 10 weeks 12 weeks 20 weeks and 36 weeks.. you can always pay to go to an ultrasound place!

My friends place is like that too, I guess the only thing that worries me about waiting that long is knowing the baby is growing where it should be growing and not in your tube etc.

An early U/S is how they date you, measure baby, determine viability, etc. Atleast from my experience at the practice I go to. I just had an appt yesterday and my MW told me the reason they do that first U/S in earlier weeks is bc it’s most accurate at determining how far along you are, by measuring baby’s CRL, versus a scan later on bc eventually they measure head to toe once baby is big enough and baby could be scrunched up a bit meaning measurements could be off. Without my early U/S my DD would have been 6-26-19, but my DD is now 7-5-19 bc baby is measuring smaller than expected. Just my personal experience at my practice. You could prob request an U/S tho if you wanted to ease your mind and see baby 😃

If I started prenatal care when they recommend to, we would have had one around this time. I am, however, waiting on insurance and even then, will probably be out a few weeks till we get to see our baby! Probably closer to 16 weeks. Looking forward to it!
