Different guidelines for different offices
I finally found the answer to something that's been confusing me. When I was referred to maternal fetal medicine, they seemed confused by my diagnosis because I had only failed the two hour portion of the screen, according to them. They handed me a sheet with my results vs their cutoffs. Their three hour cutoff was 140, my result was 136. Usually, my lab results are posted online by my OB but my three hour screen never was, they called and told me I failed the two and three hour screen. I finally found my results buried in an office note. The OB's three hour cutoff is 109.
I'm almost 34 weeks and still diet controlled. The sugars are creeping up, but not to where I need medicine yet so I'm not so sure that rises to the level of gestational diabetes. There's definitely a dysfunction and a family history so I totally understand treating me as though I have GD, but now this diagnosis will follow me for all my subsequent pregnancies and it surprised me that there was such a variation between doctors as to what criteria they use when diagnosing GD.
