Do you ovulate on hormonal IUDs?

I had spotting on the 7th and 8th of this month, and again spotting today (15th). The spotting each time comes along with pretty bad cramping. This got me thinking..... do you ovulate when you are on hormonal Iuds? Would my ovulation be able to be tracked with OPKs???

Yes and yes. I ovulated ( and still ovulate) around the 5th and 28th of every month. Calculated by Ovulation Tests.

So I have an iud because I have a blood disorder ( similar to hemophilia) which caused to to bleed excessively. I specifically went with the iud because of its tendency to reduce periods. For me I get terrible, breath taking painful cramps the day before ( sometimes two days) and the day I start or start to spot. But my periods have become lighter and shorter. Also less painful where as now I suffer for 3 days tops I used to be curled up in a ball crying for 8 days every month. My mom stopped bleeding after 7 months but due to my condition it’s possible that mine won’t stop which isn’t ideal but I’m fine with. It all depends on your body but overall I think the hormonal iud helps lessen periods and or stop them. To each their own 😊

Yes because its progesterone only. The only methods that consistently stop ovulation are methods with estrogen the combo pill, patch and ring. Progesterone only birth control prevents pregnancy by thickening the cervical mucus so sperm cant get thru and thinning the lining of the uterus so an egg cant attach. So even if you ovulate you should be fine. I used progesterone only pills for 2 years without condoms or pull out and never got pregnant I ovulated every month and there for had a period every month. Now on month 6 with mirena no condoms no pull out no pregnancies.
