Jimmy Kimmel Parenting Challenges

So Jimmy Kimmel (late night show host) has some “challenges” where he has parents do a challenge and film their kids’ reactions. The most popular one is the day after Halloween. For the kids that went treat or treating, he has the parents say they ate all their candy and there isn’t any left. He just did one where the parents turn off the TV while their kid is playing Fortnite. The videos usually consists of a bunch of kids throwing fits, sometimes cursing at or hitting their parents. With maybe one or two kids that actually respectfully responded to the situation.

Video titles from YouTube on Jimmy Kimmel Live channel:

YouTube Challenge - I Turned Off the TV During Fortnite

YouTube Challenge - I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy (many videos through the years)

The comments have a small minority of controversy so I want to see what the reactions would be on here! Most say the way the kids respond is appalling, bad parenting, kids would be grounded if they ever spoke like that, etc. Some point out that the parents are being disrespectful first by doing something knowingly rude. (Eating all their kid’s candy and randomly turning off the tv during their game). The give respect get respect kind of situation. They also point out that they are still kids reacting to an upsetting situation where the parents just wronged them.

What do you think? Give respect get respect and since the parent did something rude to antagonize the kid can react with anger? Or even if they have a valid reason to be angry with the parent doing something intentionally, the kid should have a respectful reaction?
