A Nightmare and A Blessing at same time

Rachel

My delivery was well awful. If you are reading stories for comfort or to ease your anxiety I suggest not reading mine...seriously. But if you want realistic birth story described by a writer and English Professor then welcome to my birth story.

On December 5th I woke up with what I thought was a horrible case of the stomach flu or food poisoning. I was puking my guts out and couldn’t even keep water down. (I had both hyperemisis and gestational diabetes during my pregnancy so I wasn’t a stranger to puke 🤢) but what was weird was I also was in a lot of Braxton Hicks contraction pain that felt never ending. I was only 36 weeks pregnant so I was just thinking again stomach flu and cramps.

After about 6 hours of suffering and practically living on the toilet I called my doctor who wasn’t in. Their nurse told me to just go to immediate care to get treated for stomach bug 🙄🙄🙄. I’m annoyed but I go to immediate care. They instantly check me over and tell me to get in my car and go to labor and delivery because something just isn’t right.

Go to labor delivery and have a bunch of tests done and I’m in severe pain by this point. (For those of you scared of pain for some reassurance this stomach pain was literally the worst pain of my entire delivery. Because it was constant) boom I get diagnosed with preeclampsia and they choose to monitor me.

A day goes by- nothings changed

Another day- well it’s looking like we’re going to keep you and induce on Thursday because this is pretty bad preeclampsia.

The next day- now we are going to have to do it now. (My liver was failing and I had turned severe preeclampsia)

I was soo scared. I didn’t feel ready. I cried hysterically as they prepped me for a csection. I got an epidural which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be but it made my legs shake uncontrollably the entire procedure and about 2 hours after surgery.

I was numb and ready to go. I felt odd pressure and then moments later heard my baby girl cry. I was soo happy. That it was done.

But she was a premie so I didn’t get to really see her clearly until about 6 hours after the procedure. And I was hooked up to magnesium which was not fun at all.

I love my baby girl though with all my heart and it was a blessing they caught my problem when they did or this could have been a pretty sad story. We are now at home recovering, and I’m experiencing All the postpartum joys and anxiety that come with that. 😊
