Hospital birth or home birth?

Curious, because a lot of people would prefer to have home births I heard. ❤️

Birth center ran by an OB (but uses midwives too) so I get the best of both worlds. My room has a king sized bed, jacuzzi tub, birthing stool, exercise ball. They keep the lights dim and light candles. You can bring your own music. And the best part is that the operating room is about 20 steps from my delivery room if an emergency arises.

I’m going with the “best of both worlds” approach and delivering at a family birthing center. It is located in the hospital (some are in hospitals, others are freestanding). My team of midwives are located at the hospital and encourage natural and unmedicated labor. Each room in the birthing center is equipped with a jacuzzi tub, squat bar, birthing ball, peanut ball, good & drink options, and gas & air (nitrous oxide). It’s the same floor as L&D and has two ORs, it’s own anesthesiologist, etc.

I’m pro-home. Studies have shown it to be as safe if not safer than hospital birthing. Hospitals are businesses and they choose interventions that stunt labor and cause fetal distress then basically force women into c-sections that were avoidable.
(This pertains I believe, more to US women.)
People refer to it as the cascade of intervention. 
For example:
Breaking water➡️risk of infection➡️c-section
Pitocin➡️fetal distress➡️c-section 
Unless you’re high risk I think more people should stay home. My midwife has had women transfer to her while in labor because of hospitals rushing their labor or insisting on the start of interventions without medical reason.
Interventions are great for the massively small amount of emergencies but any trained midwife will watch for signs of emergencies long before they occur.

I have to go to the hospital because I’m higher risks. But I had always hoped for a home birth or birth at a birthing center. So far things in this pregnancy have not gone according to my hopes. But healthy baby is all that matters at this point.

I would personally love a home birth. I feel like i would be more comfortable in my own home and be more likely to labor naturally. My husband however, is very nervous and strongly prefers we deliver in a hospital just in case. Ultimately we have found a hospital we both like and will be delivering there but i still think homebirths are amazing!
