Do you agree that it is a parents responsibility to teach their child?
The reason I am asking is because since having my daughter I have noticed an alarming amount of parents that teach their children next to nothing and just want their children out of their hair and assume that their child will learn what they need to know once they get to school. I personally really enjoy teaching my daughter things and am always trying to come up with educational, but fun activities to do with her because I actually have fun doing this and find it rewarding and think it’s good for bonding with her. I’ve even talked to some parents that don’t think it’s their responsibility to teach their child anything at all after they begin school and put all of the responsibility on the child’s teacher and when their child is struggling they say things like, “their teacher failed them.” Personally that stance makes no sense to me because even though their teacher is paid to teach your child during school hours and it is technically their job, there is just far too many kids per class for that to actually be practical and I feel like you should know your child well enough to know if they’re struggling and catch them up yourself during home time. With the internet available now you can learn how to teach practically anything these days so I was just curious, do you think that it is the parents responsibility to teach their children or should the child’s teacher be their main source of education?
