What color should I paint this dresser?

I've had this dresser as a child and there are tiny dents everywhere. I would like to paint it a different color, but not sure what would look nice. Dark or light color(s)? My sister suggests white but I'm afraid I'll get it dirty. I was thinking a classic dark brown but my mom thinks I should go for a more "trendy" look.
