Handmade gifts tacky?

My friend and I have been back and forth all day on this topic.

Little back story- my husband was laid off from his job in May and has finally been at this new job for a month. We are trying to catch things up financially so we decided to do homemade gifts for close family (mother, grandmother, etc)

I decided to make ornaments with my twins handprints. Their names and year are written on them

I showed my friend the finished product and she said "well dont be offended when you never see those hanging up or when their in the trash, homemade gifts are so tacky and cheap" after she said that I kinda just stated my opinion.

Decided to post it here to see what other people say about homemade gifts. Will delete if this isnt the right room for it.
