Cervix questions ...

So I just started checking my cervix and actually paying attention to it normally it's right in reach and I have been feeling the "hole" getting wider and I enter my "fertile week" this AM went to check and it was no where to be found are there any reasons for the lift? Does it go hand in hand with ovulation or does it just come up when it wants?! Thanks ahead of time :)
