Shy toddler

My daughter is really shy in public. She stands still and picks her nose. I’ve noticed this is her nervous tick- nose picking. I try to help her feel more comfortable when I’m there but I’ve observed her in daycare and she says away from the group. The teachers tries to engage her but she chooses to sit alone. It makes me so sad because at home she is so outgoing. I’m not sure what I can do to help.

My boy has an adorable finger twiddle he does when he’s nervous. It’s helpful to know when he’s feeling nervous. I always squat down and reexplain to him what’s going on, and what he is allowed to do, usually that’s enough for him to run off, but sometimes he keeps at it, in which case I give him snacks and that helps him observe while doing something, usually after his snack he’s ready to interact and participate 😂

Didn’t mean to post yet 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t see him alone often, but when I watch him play from afar and kids get aggressive he starts twiddling again, he seems to do better when kids join him rather than him joining them, so maybe if you send her with something she’s very happy playing with, some other kids will be interested enough to join her, and that might be comforting 🤔
