Do DNA test after two bad sperm samples?

Question

We were so ready to go straight to IVF after two low sperm quality samples. For more than 6 months SO hasn't had a drop of alcohol, never smoked, boxer shorts and all relevant supplements taken diligently. Doctor now insists on DNA test for SO and will not allow us to proceed to IVF, even though he knows we pay for this out of pocket. I pushed back as time is of the essence, but it was a no. Doctor claimed there could be a case of faulty chromosome, perhaps "XYX" or "micro damage on Y" that is causing the low sperm count.. Is it time to switch doctor? Or should we go along with this additional 1000 dollar DNA test? SO obviously don't wish to pass on infertility to a possible son, but I would be happy to put the 1000 dollars to an "IVF fund" for such a baby.

Get a second opinion but this doctor may be Looking out for you. Are you sure you’re understanding the test correctly? It sounds like it might be a concern that that the baby would have a genetic abnormality and either not be viable or be born with a low quality of life. I think that’s why they want to test to make sure it’s a healthy baby. I can’t imagine them wanting to test because your husband might pass on infertility. I’d ask for clarificAtion.

We have male infertility factor. Azoospermia. Hubby had undescended testicle as a kid. We did a round of ivf but the day of my egg retrieval he had zero sperm so they did a tesa and it was still zero. We are seeing a urologist specializing in this condition and we did the genetic testing. Y chromosome and a keryotyping. We wanted to know all of our situation before moving in to different options. IE: trying again for sperm? Sperm donor? 
Because his genetic test came back normal we have decided to keep trying to get the sperm we need to fertilze my frozen eggs.

We were trying for 22 months when we found out, due to the DNA testing, that my husband has a weird chromosomal deletion. Instead of a short and a long arm on his Y chromosome, he has 2 short arms deleting the portion that produces sperm.
2 long arms could result in sperm production which could need sperm aspiration for ICSI. 2 short arms means no genetic babies for us.
For us, it was worth it before trying to proceed. But you have to do what helps your heart.

My husband had to do that same chromosome test and it cost us $2,500 (we are in Wisconsin) so I think you’re getting a bargain! They wanted us to do it because my husband needs a sperm retrieval biopsy and they wanted to make sure the likelihood that they would find sperm.

So to follow up on this, my SO wanted the DNA test and I didn't, so we compromised and got the test, which came back negative, meaning the DNA was perfectly fine.
We then switched doctor and clinic and the new doctor said they would only ever recommend DNA test unless the sperm count was absolutely zero.
Third sperm test turned out to also have very low count, we were recommended IVF with ISCI. 
I'm undergoing IVF at the moment.
My SO did everything he could: No alcohol for over a year, all types of vitamins, loose fitting underwear... It did not help.
