First time sex HELP

Hi there, so this is quite embarrassing but I need help. My boyfriend and I had sex for the first time and it did not work. For some reason his penis would not go inside me. I don’t know if he just wasn’t hard enough since he has cum already or if I wasn’t wet enough or too tight¿ or maybe we weren’t in the right positions. We tried many times and it was very awkward. It did go partially inside me a few times but it was not really working. What can I do to improve this?? what is even going wrong? ah help
