Pumping at work
I currently work full time for a perinatal ultrasound department . I started off pumping twice a day at work and now am down to once a day at work . I get 30
Minutes to walk to the lactation room , pump and do my thing and come back to take patients .which most of the time is a good amount of time , minus if I’m waiting in line for a bay to open up for me to pump . We do not have an open clean room located in our department for pumping . Recently the administrator who is in charge of multiple womens health departments i currently work for decided it was time that we punch out for these breaks and find a way to make up the time. He has not enforced this new rule yet but will be doing so in the new year . This came out of no where but i have experienced discrimination way before this moment on many levels while pregnant and now currently breastfeeding. I feel as if he is giving us the time , however with consequences. He wants to make it difficult for future moms in the department to pump and in hopes they just decide not to pump .( my opinion) im
Not sure what he would be accomplishing by changing this policy . He also is not planning to enforce this on the other departments he is administrating.A whole bunch of angry women in my department want to stand up for what we believe in and fight this . Its hard enough to leave your baby home but to be made felt like your doing something wrong for pumping at work , its sad and not right . What is everyone’s thoughts and work protocols for pumping ?
