Advise on gestational diabetes
I was diagnosed early with gestational diabetes (I’m only going to be 20 weeks tomorrow) and my drs keep talking about “when” they start me on insulin. I work night shift and don’t always get lunch at the same time, and I don’t get a snack before I have my lunch because I’m in a sterile IV room. I eat “breakfast” around 6 pm. And don’t get lunch until 1-2 AM, sometimes not until 3AM. I eat a larger “breakfast” to get me through that time and an hour after eating my sugar is between 138 and 148. It’s only been 2 weeks of me testing and I’m trying to find a balance of what foods keep me not dizzy and nauseous while I’m working with needles and drugs some dangerous drugs if I’d stick myself and what keeps my sugar below 140. After only 2 weeks of testing my dr says she wants me to start insulin but all my other numbers are fine. I’m not comfortable starting insulin for numbers not that much higher for only one meal. I feel like they have been trying to find an excuse to get me to start insulin from the time I was transferred to them. They also want me to now take a baby aspirin everyday to “prevent” preeclampsia. My blood is already very thin and the highest my blood pressure has been since I got pregnant was 112/68. Which is a great blood pressure.
Any advise on what your drs have suggested or is this push for insulin simply because you have GD a normal thing?
