So my boyfriend and I have been together for over a year now and we currently live together. We met at our old job and he’s 21 and I am 19. Some background story: he had a crush on me as soon as he met me but I didn’t take to him until months later. At that point he had moved on so I moved on. Months later when we were both available we started talking. Officially we’re dating for three weeks and he broke up with me cause he wasn’t ready for a relationship. Fast forward a year later we reconnect and then slowly start dating again. He was different a good different. It’s been over a year now and we have lived together for over 5 months now and have a dog together.

Here’s where I need advice. We’ve been fighting a lot lately. I’m a lot more emotional than he is and we clash on that. The past month he hasn’t been as affectionate as he usually is and I just want more time with him. So we decided last night we are going to start having date nights. Which I am super excited about and he seems to be too. Early today we were on the phone and I mentioned something about maternity leave and he said something super ignorant. That he doesn’t think women should get it. And this blew my mind. I immediately got upset and tried to explain to him why all women deserve it and how all men deserve paid paternity leave. He chose to halfway listen to me and play his video game. It hurt. Not just the comment which isn’t like him at all. He’s super caring and excepting. This came as a shock to me.

When we argue he always tells me he doesn’t want to talk about it. But I tell him I do. To me it’s childish and I tell him we need to be grown ups and talk about or problems and work on fixing them. But I feel like as if I am talking to a wall. I tell him how it makes me feel and he apologizes but then the problem keeps arising. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to lose him and I know he doesn’t wanna lose me. Any advice ? Sorry this was so long.

He and I took a few hours apart and had a long in depth conversation. We both agree we have things to work on. But we both want to make it work. All I can say is let’s hope for the best! Thank you all for your comments ❤️
