So you know how the iud can be used to induce abortion? I’ve had my iud for 2 years and sometimes i just wonder if/how many times i’ve been pregnant before and just didnt know cause the iud eliminated it before it became noticeable. Anyone else wonder this or am i weird?

I’ve never heard of an IUD causing an abortion. They are designed to prevent fertilization but if it somehow happens they prevent implantation.

I think you have the information mixed up a little... the copper iud eg paragard can be used as an emergency contraceptive within 5 days of having unprotected sex... IUDs do not induce abortions.

I’ve kinda wondered that. The intense cramping sometimes makes me wonder what’s actually going on in there. I don’t think I’m ovulating anymore because I used to feel mittelshmerz, so it wouldn’t logically be happening anymore if it ever did, but there’s no 100% sure way that it works, no matter what source you ask. Some sources say the copper (I have the copper iud) changes the hospitability of the uterus by altering the chemical composition of uterine fluids (more or less), while others say it prevents ovulation, fertilization, etc. somehow. If it somehow works by reducing the chances of implantation (and not by stopping ovulation or fertilization), it may work by altering the uterine atmosphere in such a way that initial implantation after fertilization may still happen sometimes (and that may be some of the intense cramping if blood and/clots etc. follows). There’s no proof either way of whether the (copper) iud is or is not an abortifacient, though it is promulgated that it is not. According to common knowledge, no, it does not induce abortion; however, no one is sure how exactly it works - and that’s why I’ve wondered, because, exactly how does the copper iud work at preventing pregnancy...? It’s still up for speculation at this point.
