Difference between Balayage & Ombré??

Question

I’m dying my hair tomorrow and I want to do one of the two but I feel like I’ll be forever confused because pictures of the two seem to look the same??
Also, is it hard to go to a blonde-ish color from a dark brown? I kinda wanna do a dark blonde ombré or balayage on my dark brown hair. 
I’m super excited and kinda scared tho, I’ve never changed my hair this much before! 😬😬

Balayage is hand painted on without foils. And ombre can be done with the balayage technique however is more common for the ombre to cover all the ends instead of the dimensional look you get with balayage since with the balayage technique leaves some darker color stands throughout the ends
