Interracial Couple Problems

Haven

My boyfriend and I have a fairytale romance. I saw him at competitions and band clinics and developed a crush on him, but never had the nerve to talk to him. We eventually met via Instagram but I was unaware it was him so to his change in appearance. We hit it off and fell for each other immediately. He supported me to try again when my audition for the school he attends got rejected. I tried again for filmmaking and fell in love with that too and got accepted. Our school is a residential arts high school. Everything’s great so far! Of course we fight but we’ve been working on better ways to communicate and such.

Our only problem is that we’re an interracial couple in a small Southern town. I’m mixed and he’s white. We get stares from people when we’re shopping together. Some even stop and stare at us and shake their heads. At school, a certain member of staff waits until we’re not with each other to make comments. She chewed me out about PDA which is understandable even though it wasn’t anything bad like kissing. She waited until I left one night and commented to my boyfriend that he’ll just find someone new in college and laughed and walked away. We found this extremely inappropriate because she doesn’t know how long we’ve known each other. Like other members of staff, she assumed that we got together as soon as I came to school there, but that’s not true. I am thankful to the original staff, however, for their support. I’m especially thankful to the ones who somewhat had a hand in getting us together.

I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn’t listen to people like this. Keep y’all’s heads up. Nothing matters as long as you’re happy and taken care of and you love each other. If you’ve dealt with problems, feel free to leave them below. Thanks for listening!
