Spoiling a baby ?

Is it bad spoiling your child? I have a 8 month old daughter and she is my first child and I spoil her all the time by buying her new things never myself!! My boyfriend doesn’t really like that I spoil her and told me if we have a child together it won’t be like that and No my daughter isn’t biologically his.... I don’t see why it’s bad thing to do when I work for my money and pay my bills. I know when she gets older and understands then I’ll set up chores for her if she wants to earn something or money but right now she is still a baby.

She's 8 months old so no, but as she becomes older, yes it can be problematic. I do think it's unwise to spend a lot on an 8 month old because they literally have no clue if they're wearing a new and expensive outfit or just a $3 onesie, when that money can be saved and over time used for something more important. Maybe that's why he objects? But no it won't harm her at 8 months, not until they're older can they become spoiled to the point of being bratty or entitled.

I don’t believe in spoiling a child. Most of them grow up to be ungrateful and unappreciative of things.

Honestly I was “spoiled” honestly I still am lol. My parents literally bought me anything I wanted and encouraged me to do whatever I wanted but also taught me to take care of myself. Now when I want something I just go and get it myself. I still love buying myself gifts and having nice things I just know that I have to work for them. I think what helped is my parents letting me actively be apart of the process of getting those things. It wasn’t just magical gifts that popped up out the blue it was very clear to me that the things we had were from my parents hard work so that connection was always there. I also saw my parents treat themselves with nice things so I wasn’t unintentionally taught that I was the center of attention and every dollar my parents made was for me and me only. 
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with “spoiling” your child as long as you also teach them important values.

Can you spoil a child, yes. Can you spoil an 8 month old?  They don’t know what’s going on. I find myself going overboard at times with our daughter (almost 5 months) for example getting her a new sleeper or teething toy when we’re out, but she’s getting use out of it. I look at it as long as I curb that when she gets older and knows what’s going on, it’ll be ok. I’m aware of it because My 2 nieces were bought a present by their parents and grandparents any time they went out anywhere. It was a major problem and they both, while great girls, were terrible and ungrateful. My youngest niece, now 19, is still spoiled having to have the best of the best while not working and everyone still caters to her.

It could be problematic I guess. I know I will spoil my kids and I was spoiled but I also got punished if I was bad. Just teach her (when she’s older obviously) that she needs to take care of her things.
