Should I be worried?

Question

My 20 month old only really says mama or dada and nothing else really and doesn’t know what mama or dads actually means. He will copy sounds but not words, he babbles a lot but still no words, I think he does try sometimes though. 
Everything else is fine, he’s on time with everything other than talking so just wondered if anyone else is dealing with this or has done that can give me some advice?

Not sure if your little one still has a soother but our guy was soother obsessed and would only say a handful of words. We completely took it away a few weeks ago and its incredible how many words he now says! We also started making him put effort into telling us what he wants instead of just whining and pointing to what he wants.

Same boat. We put our daughter in speech therapy and it seems to be helping. When she started she didn’t say a single word and now she says momma and dada and Blue (her brother) and uh-oh and oh-no. It’s not much but it’s progress.. 
Her motor skills are on point though.

I feel alone with this especially when i get looks from people or family yelling at him to talk. He’s not ready but they try to force him. Its frustrating even for me but I can’t force it. He just gets upset if i try.

I am in the same boat as you. My son is 21 months old and only say 5ish words. He is super active and understands everything and try’s to act everything but no words. He doesn’t even say mama r dada sometimes. I am so very waiting for him to talk.

I have the same issue with my 21 month old son. He says Dada and No, but that's about it. He understands what we say and he babbles all day long, but no other words. My pediatrician said that it's nothing to worry about as every child is on their own timeline. Several other moms said that their children (mostly boys) seem to start talking later.... sometimes not until 3!

I would ask your doctor what they suggest. Ours told us that our daughter should say between 50-100 words by the time she’s 2. She’s 20 months and says over 50 so I feel on track, however, we have a good friend with a little girl the same age who says 5ish words. Her mother has started her with early intervention and a speech therapist. I have no idea how they test them so young, but she said the therapist told her she has trouble speaking because of her chunky cheeks! It also causes her to have a really sensitive gag reflux and is why she could never (and still doesn’t) take a bottle. Anyway - sorry I’m rambling. I think there’s lots of resources but at the same time, they all move at different paces and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong!
