Is it common for all girls to go on birth control when they start their period?

Asking because I’m 26 and have never been on any form or birth control, so I honestly don’t know how many girls/women use contraceptives or what is considered normal. 
My SO and I have always just used condoms and tracked my cycle when we didn’t want to use them.
Are you on birth control? What kind and why? What age did you start birth control?

I actually like it because it makes my periods better (lighter, less cramping). With Mirena they went away entirely.

I started bc when I was 14. Took the pill, the patch.(different times/year) i took it until I was 23. 
I regret it so much today. It affects your mind so much, i never knew until I stopped. I feel like I missed those 9 years of my life.
I had no sex drive, was miserable with my life (even if my life is pretty great), I was almost in a depressive mode... always sad and angry to everyone and everything, always on the edge. 
Been off of it for almost 2 years now and I feel so happy and satisfied with my life in general. I’m still surrounded by the same people, do the same job, do the same activities so I know it wasn’t my lifestyle, it was the medication.

Most women who go on birth control will wait until they're sexually active, unless they're experiencing horrific hormonal acne or very painful/dangerous periods, not necessarily when they start their period. I for one, got my period at 12 and started birth control at 17 to a) calm my acne b) regulate my periods (would go months at a time without one and then bleed for two weeks) c) hopefully gain some weight (which I did) and d) since I was on my way to college, if the worst were to happen (i.e. sexual assault and/or r*pe), I'd be protected from that to some degree. I've stayed on it for five years because I appreciate what it has been able to do for me physically and emotionally.

I definitely did not start birth control once I got my period. To me a 10 year old taking birth control is not right! Obviously sometimes there may be a medical condition where it is recommended, but as a general rule, I think no. 
I got on birth control when I was 26 because I was getting married and would obviously begin having sex. We truly want a baby but also want to be responsible in doing so. We need a bigger house first with adequate heating, and I want to be able to stay home with our baby, so we need to be a bit more financially stable first.

I got my first period when I was 15 and I went on birth control (the pill form) when I was 16. I went on it not because I was sexually activate but because I was having super heavy periods that would last way longer than 7 days and being slightly anemic it was starting to become an issue so I went on birth control to regulate and lesson my periods. I didn’t actually use birth control as a method to not get pregnant until I was 19.

I started when I was like 22  as soon as I wanted to become sexually active. My mom always offered for me to be on it as soon as I started my period when I told her no she just said ok as long as if when I became sexually active I  went to her to get on BC. When I went on it it I got the depo cuz I'm terrible at remembering pills and taking it the same time every day was hard. Thinking back I wish I had gone on something else because I gained so much weight. I know it wasn't just the depo but still. I also got super depressed and had the worst headaches. My sister always used the Nuva Ring and she really likes it. She likes it because she still has a regular cycle while on it. I also tried the pill after I was married because if I happened to get pregnant while on it my husband and I always said it wasn't a big deal. I didnt like the pill  I was on because sometimes I'd miss my period and sometimes I wouldn't.
