Discharge?

Hey everyone, so I’m new to the whole “learning what stage of the menstrual cycle your at” thing and just wanted to know if anyone could give me some information on why discharge should look and feel like at all the different stages of my menstrual cycle?

At the moment it’s clear and very watery and slippery, it has bits of white through it. It is not sticky, I was just wondering what stage of my menstrual cycle I’m at???

Also any information on what it should look like at all the different stages would be great, thanks in advance xxx

Good on you for educating yourself! So when you’re on your period you get blood, and obviously that’s the lining of your womb going because there’s no foetus there. The lining is full of nutrients for a foetus, and if there’s no foetus, the lining is not needed any more. After your period you may get brown discharge. This is old blood which wasn’t released at the start of your period. For me, if my period was very heavy, I don’t get much old blood. Then after your brown blood you may get some white discharge. This is the uterus cleaning itself and getting rid of any bacteria and stuff that shouldn’t be there! Keeping a clean environment and all that. You may get that throughout your cycle at random stages, which is normal, and just a bit of spring cleaning going on. Clear discharge which is slippery and stretchy indicates you’re in your fertile window. Your vagina and uterus is acidic, which is perfect for killing alkaline sperm (and other intruders, pathogens, etc). However, this clear discharge offers a more friendly environment for the sperm, keeping them away from the acidic environment which kills them. Therefore they are more likely to survive up to finding an egg! Then before your period you may get white discharge again. This is because if the body believes an egg has been fertilised, the uterus needs to be cleaned again! But if there is no fertilisation then your period will begin. You may also experience light brown or light red spotting before your period, and is simply the lining becoming loose. I hope this helps!
