Early Scan

Laura

Hey ladies,

I'm around 5 weeks pregnant. My first midwife appointment isn't until I'm about 10 weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone paid for an early scan at like 7/8weeks just for reassurance? I am just super anxious but I'm not sure if I'm just being stupidly paranoid x

With this pregnancy I got early ones on the NHS due to a previous miscarriage however with my previous pregnancy I paid for one at 7 weeks 2 days and saw a heartbeat which was amazing however I still miscarried 2 days later. My point being...although they are lovely and do reassure you at that moment, as soon as the scan is over I think I would just get anxious again because I know from experience anything can go wrong.

I'm so sorry 😔 thank you for your advice though. I think I might hold off as long as I can and just try to stop being so anxious. Like you say anything can still happen xx

I didn’t pay for one that early but I paid for one when I couldn’t find out the gender I would recommend Window to the womb they was lovely when I went.

I paid for 1 at 7weeks 3 days for the same reason. Unfortunately my fears were confirmed and a missed miscarriage was picked up but at least I found out early from it. I would pay for another one again but as another poster said it would probably only ease my anxiety at that time and if worry until the next one!

I always have high risk pregnancies and get tested early ie 5 weeks. But with my first I was 8 weeks and started bleeding and the NHS didn't do anything so I went to have a private scan as I wanted to know if I still had my baby and thankfully I did and the scan really reassured me and now my son is 11 months old. I always think with a pregnancy it's always good to have scans when you feel you want them as it reassurance etc and calms you down.

I paid for one privately at 8 weeks, it cost me £30 on groupon and i loved it! such a sigh of relief and love being able to see how much my baby has grown

i went for an early scan around 8/9 weeks just for reassurance and i’m so glad i did, kept me going through to my next scan! had it done at babybond ultrasound, used them for my gender scan also!

I went for a scan at 7 weeks and glad I did as it was the longest 5 week wait until the NHS scan at 12 weeks

I had an early scan through the NHS at just shy of 6 weeks. It was very early but we could still see a flickering heartbeat 😍 If I didn’t have this done through the NHS I would have definitely booked a private one.I’ve just booked an early gender scan for 15weeks 4 days and will probably have a 4D scan too. I don’t think 2 scans is enough for an entire pregnancy! Book one if it will put you’re mind at rest.

I didn’t in the end as I’d read the expert advice from the RCOG and they don’t recommend unnecessary scans before 10 weeks just in case there are any tiny risks at that stage (if you google it you can read the official guidance). You’re not likely to see much before then and they often seem to cause more worry than reassurance. I know it seems like a long time to wait but it does go quite quickly and you should see a midwife before then. I just distracted myself. If you wait until your 12 week scan you will also get a much better idea about whether it’s viable so I think it’s best to just wait for it to develop sufficiently. Try not to worry and congrats :) x
