Nursing, is it worth it?

I am an lvn working on becoming an rn. When I tell people mu goal is to become a nurse practitioner they tell me it’s to much debt and not work it. I did an lvn program went back getting rn then from rn to nurse practitioners. Does it sound like to much? Not worth it?

Don’t let people discourage you. They are more than likely telling you that because something is stopping them from becoming a NP.

Im a nurse and want to be a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Where I live the salary is 6 figures so I think its worth it.

My husband is a nurse and a paramedic, he loves both but does say he wishes he had gotten his nurse practitioners education/license since he would prefer to have the larger scope of practice and be able to do some aspects of the practice in a different way. Plus the salary increase is great in Canada. At the end of the day it’s up to you and what aspects of being a nurse practitioner would be worth it to you as well as the additional debt. Debt can be paid off if you plan things properly, it can take some time, but you also need to ba happy in the job you have. So just keep in mind that there’s more to the decision than just the cost of studies. Ps thank you for all the work you do as a nurse! It’s amazing what you do🙏🏽

It depends on your definition of with it. NP is a long a difficult program. For me, it’s not worth the time. I became a nurse to take care of patients, not write orders. Your role as an NP is much closer to that of a doctor without the doctors pay. If you want to have more independence in your work and have the time to go through the program, go for it.
